What is the Elo rating?
The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in chess and other competitive games. Named after its creator, Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-American physics professor, this system assigns a numerical rating to each player. A higher rating indicates a stronger player. When two players compete, the expected outcome is calculated based on their ratings, and ratings are adjusted after each game. A beginner might start around 800-1000, club players typically range from 1200-1800, while grandmasters usually have ratings above 2500.
